Sheema, Uganda – In a bold move, Bruno Mugizi, a seasoned journalist with Vision Group, has announced his candidacy for the Kitagata Sub-County LC3 seat in Sheema District. This decision comes after a contentious National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary election, where Mugizi lost to Kyomuhangi Byaruhanga Simplex.
The NRM primaries were marred by allegations of irregularities, which Mugizi claims influenced the outcome. Despite garnering 1,510 votes (48.35%), Mugizi asserts that voter bribery, unregistered voters, and daylight cheating at various polling stations compromised the electoral process.
The official results, announced by the NRM Returning Officer, Mr. Kateshumbwa John, showed Kyomuhangi Byaruhanga Simplex winning with 1,549 votes (49.60%), while Mugizi secured the second position. Behangana Cornelius trailed behind with 64 votes (2.05%) out of 3,123 total votes cast.

Undeterred by the primary outcome, Mugizi has decided to run as an independent candidate, seeking to make a mark in Kitagata Sub-County’s leadership. As a resident of Kyeibanga East, Kitagata Sub-County, Mugizi’s decision may bring fresh dynamics to the local political landscape.
End.
