Sheema, Uganda – Police in Sheema District have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of Betware Edison, a 63-year-old businessman, on July 28, 2025.
“This was a brutal attack,” stated SP Tayebwa Apollo, Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson. “Mr. Edison was a respected member of the community and his death is a tragic loss.”
Edison, a resident of Rutooma cell, Rutooma ward, was found unconscious at approximately 6:00 Am near Neebs Bar, his place of work, following an apparent attack. Police believe he was assaulted by unknown assailants as he left his home earlier that morning.
The assailants reportedly stole his bag containing personal belongings. He was initially treated at BMC Hospital Kabwohe before being transferred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Responding swiftly to the distress call, Sheema District Police deployed canine units to the scene. The investigation, led by the Sheema District Police, led to the apprehension of a male suspect. A piece of wood with suspected bloodstains was recovered at the scene.
“The suspect is currently in police custody and is undergoing questioning. We are pursuing all leads and collaborating with local community members. A post-mortem examination of the victim’s body has been completed and will assist us in determining the exact cause of death,” explained SP Apollo. “We are committed to bringing the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.”
