Bushenyi, Uganda – Hundreds of enthusiastic voters flocked to St. Kagwa Playground in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality on Monday, June 22, 2025, to witness the launch of Hajji Iddi Basajjabalaba’s manifesto for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Recently nominated by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) for the municipality seat, Basajjabalaba was greeted with a vibrant and diverse crowd that included NRM supporters, members of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), business leaders, religious figures, boda boda riders (who received reflectors), taxi drivers, and countless well-wishers.

The rally, which began with a celebratory procession through the constituency, culminated at St. Kagwa Playground, where Basajjabalaba unveiled his platform. The atmosphere was electric, with the crowd repeatedly chanting “Hajji Oyeee, Hajji Oyee.”

In a brief but impactful speech, Basajjabalaba, flanked by his wife and sisters, outlined his manifesto’s key priorities: improving the health sector, bolstering education, and advancing infrastructure development. His words resonated with the crowd, many of whom whispered their appreciation for his existing efforts, including scholarship programs, free medical services at KIU Hospital, well repairs, and the ongoing electricity project in Ruharo.

Prominent figures graced the event, including El Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba, NRM Chairperson for Bushenyi and Iddi Basajjabalaba’s father. Though briefly addressing the crowd due to excitement, Hassan Basajjabalaba expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the Bushenyi people’s love and urged them to support his son in his parliamentary bid.
Speeches from other dignitaries, including former Bushenyi District Speaker Justine Burisadi (Chairperson of Basajjabalaba’s campaign), NRM Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality Chairperson Hajji Lukwago Muhamad, RDC Nickolas, former Municipality MP Odo Tayeebwa, Municipality Mayor Richard Byaruhanga, former mayor Kamugasha, and other councilors, further amplified the event’s significance.
