Mtungamo, Uganda – The football tournament organized by Rushenyi’s prospective Member of Parliament, Mr. Jonan A Muhumuza, kicked off on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
According to Mr. Muhumuza’s representative, Mr. Alex Mujurizi, also known as “Baller,” the tournament sponsor initially focused on Rushenyi’s seven sub-counties, which included councils competing in the “Muhumuza Cup.”
As promised, the tournament has expanded to include sub-county and parish levels, both retaining the “Muhumuza Cup” name.
The tournament commenced with a match between Migyera Parish FC and Ruhara FC at Migyera playground in Ngoma sub-county.
Ruhara secured three points after scoring a goal in the first half. Mr. Muhumuza, through his representative, urged cooperation among participants during the tournament.
The initiative aims to curb boredom and drug abuse among youths by developing their talents, which can help them earn a living.
Sam Musharaza Twesigye, chairman of the organizing committee, congratulated participants in the first game, reiterating that engaging in such tournaments helps youths develop their talents for future benefits, rather than pursuing unproductive ventures like alcoholism, drug abuse, and prostitution.
