CHINA – Hong kong has passed a New National Security law that is aimed at punishing anyone deemed a threat and to diminish Civil Liberties.
This comes on top of the law imposed by China in 2020 that Successfully silenced Opposition Voices.
The law was passed on Tuesday , 7…… ,in the legislative Council chamber where National Security Bill had been tabled, just days after a draft was introduced to the legislature. The law makes Treason,Espinioage,Insurrection,Subotage punishable by up to life in prison.
Rights groups and foreign governments fear that such a law will further degrade any existing freedoms and stiffle the Voices of the Dissent.
Authorities in Hong kong however, say that the law passed in 2020 restored stability after the 2019 pro democracy protests. They further say that the new law is necessary to secure the National Security of the Country.
