KIGEZI – The territorial police in Rubanda are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 20 years old Joseph Tibandekea Porter and resident of Kasalaga cell Zigoti Sub County Mityana district.
This occurred on the
19/08/2024 at around 1am at Hamuhambo Trading Centre Hamuhambo ward Hamuhambo Town Council Rubanda district, after the deceased was allegedly assaulted by some local residents after developing some misunderstandings.
So far two suspects with whom the deceased were with have been arrested to help in investigations and they are; Kakande Ibra 20 years, Manson resident of Kasalaga cell Zigoti sub county Mityana district and Amanyire Branson aged 17 years a Porter resident of Rubanga cell Nyabikungu parish Kinoni Sub County, Mbarara District.
It’s alleged that on 18/08/2024 at around 9pm the deceased together with the two suspects and other workers left the site at Bushura cell and went to Hamuhambo for social evening. Its said that at around midnight the three developed a quarrel with locals yet to be identified and fought but they managed to run away to where they stay at the site but Joseph the deceased didn’t reach home.
The two, Amanyire and Kakande Ibra first went to the nearby clinic for first aid and on their way back, they met a boda boda rider who told them that there’s a man being beaten on the way. They went and found out to be (now the deceased) but was still alive, police at Bunyonyi were notified and the victim was taken to Rugarama hospital where he died on arrival.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Asp Elly Maate says a case of murder was registered at Bunyonyi police post, later Rubanda CPS CRB 331/2024 and a team of Homicide booked out to Rugarama Hospital mortuary where postmortem was done later proceeded to Hamuhambo Town Council where the scene of crime was visited and documented.
“Statements of witnesses were recorded and the two suspects were arrested to help in investigation as police inquiries continue”, Afande Maate stressed.
