A young Ugandan man and his partner, Simon, have been forced to live in hiding after their relationship was exposed in their village, leading to threats of violence and police persecution.
The couple, who met in 2022, had been discreetly navigating their love amidst Uganda’s harsh laws against LGBTQ+ individuals. However, their lives took a dramatic turn when they were caught “red-handed” by their boss at a business store in Kampala. The incident led to a police chase, forcing them to flee their home and live in constant fear of being discovered.
Despite the challenges, the couple has found support from a secret LGBTQ+ community in Uganda, which has helped them find temporary shelter and employment. However, the threat of persecution remains, and they are forced to keep a low profile, only venturing out at night.
