BUSHENYI – The Diocese of West Ankole has clarified that the fundraising function scheduled for 25th October 2026 in support of the completion of Bweranyangi Cathedral coincides with a fundraising function organized by the Roman Catholic Church at St. Kagwa.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Bishop Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni said the coincidence is not a result of sabotage, competition or ill intention.
“The two churches have separate planning structures and programmes, and the dates were set through independent processes,” the Bishop said.

He said upon learning of the coincidence, the Diocese considered changing its date. However, substantial preparations had already been made, and the function had previously been postponed due to the Ebola threat. With year-end activities also limiting alternative dates, changing the date again presented significant challenges.
Bishop Twinomujuni said the Diocese’s theme, “Love That Unites,” remains firmly at the heart of its mission.
“We should not allow a coincidence of dates to become a source of suspicion, blame or religious division. Our different church traditions do not diminish our shared calling to love God, serve humanity and live peacefully together,” he said.
He encouraged everyone to support either or both fundraising efforts according to their ability and commitments.
“Those invited to both functions may attend both where practical, or honour one invitation. As Bishop, I will personally contribute to the Roman Catholic fundraising effort at St. Kagwa,” he said, adding that he appreciates the spirit of generosity and mutual support that continues to exist across the churches.
He wished the Roman Catholic brothers and sisters every success, as he appealed for generous support towards the completion of Bweranyangi Cathedral.
“Let us not allow different calendars to divide hearts that are called to love. Two fundraising functions can take place on the same day without hostility or rivalry. Love, respect and unity must prevail,” Bishop Twinomujuni said.
