MBARARA CITY – Mbarara city mayor ,Robert Mugabe kakyebezi has tipped locals against providing misleading information to enumerators during the forthcoming 2024 National Population and housing Census .
Kakyebezi is also concerned that some unscrupulous locals have been telling lies about how the information sourced out of census will be used.
Kakyebezi made the remarks during a media briefing at city council hall on Tuesday ahead of the 2024 National population and housing census on Friday.
He said some people are reportedly claiming the data is intended to inform a future decision by the government to increase taxes.
However, on his part the Mbarara Resident city commissioner,Lt.col.James Mwesigye said they have deployed appropriately to beat back any insecurity and threats to the Census process.
Lydia Tuhaise the principal statistician at Uganda Bureau of statistics(UBOS) who also doubles as the Mbarara city census commissioner called upon every Ugandan to stand out and be counted during this coming census exercise that will cover the whole country.
Patrick Kanamugiira ,the city census officer sounded a stern warning to the residents who would attempt to boycott the exercise, urged everyone to embrace the programme so that government gets the correct data to facilitate easy planning.
He also put it categorically clear that other people would be counted from institutions including schools, bus parks, hotels and lodges among others.
The forthcoming National population and housing census will be held under the theme “it matters to be counted” and it aims to include everyone from homeless street children, prisoners and patients in the hospitals to ensure comprehensive data collection.
