Kanungu,Uganda – Territorial police in Kanungu District are investigating an attempted murder after a casual worker allegedly cut off his employer’s hand with a panga.
The victim has been identified as Eriabu Aineplani. The suspect is known only as Brian.
Police say Brian worked for Aineplani burning charcoal at Omukibaare Village, Kayungwe Sub County, Kanungu District. The victim had reportedly received information that the suspect was stealing his charcoal.
It is alleged that today, 18th April 2026, at around 1:00 p.m., Aineplani went to the site and began questioning the suspect about the theft in the presence of other workers.
During the confrontation, the suspect became violent and raised a sharp panga in an attempt to behead the victim. Aineplani raised his hand to defend himself, and it was severed completely.
A case of attempted murder was registered at Nyakabungo Police Station by area chairperson Turinawe Frank. Police recorded statements from eyewitnesses and recovered the panga, which has been entered as an exhibit.
The victim was rushed to Kambuga Hospital, where he is admitted.
Efforts to arrest the suspect are underway.
