Bushenyi, Uganda – In Bushenyi District, Uganda, a disturbing pattern of religious discrimination is undermining the principles of unity and fairness.
The Born Again (Pentecostal) Christian community experiences significant marginalization, particularly regarding official political visits to religious institutions.
While Catholic, Protestant, and Muslim organizations receive regular attention from the Woman MP, the LC5 Chairman, and the MP of Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, Pentecostal churches are consistently overlooked.

This neglect is strikingly evident in the case of Rwejenru Pentecostal Ministries of Uganda, a church within Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality supporting over 360 vulnerable children and 300 caregivers through the internationally recognized Compassion International program.
Despite numerous invitations, no government official, especially elected leaders, has ever visited. This blatant disregard for a vital community institution is not only unjust but also deeply disrespectful.
Political visitations should demonstrate equal respect for all religious groups serving the community, regardless of size or denomination. The absence of engagement with the Born Again community by key political figures sends a damaging message of exclusion.
In stark contrast, the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Speaker of Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality have shown commendable inclusivity, demonstrating how leadership should be conducted.
The Born Again community, comprising a significant portion of the electorate, is calling for an end to this discriminatory practice. They are not seeking preferential treatment, but simply equal visitation, attention, and dignity. This is not merely a religious issue; it is a matter of fair representation and equitable governance.
The authors urge the elected officials to rectify this situation and ensure all religious communities are treated with the respect and consideration they deserve. The future of Bushenyi demands inclusive leadership that represents the entire population.
End.
