MITOOMA – The Mitooma district Committe on Monday 28th October 2024 asked for a quick external audit from the auditor general into the road unit accountability report over the use of shs 1 Billion road fund.
In a meeting held in the district Council hall chaired by Ruhinda South MP Hon Captain Mugabe Dononzio, members remained confused with the money figures in the accountability papers compared to the visible work done by the district roads unit.
Earlier on 14th October 2024, the meeting that was being chaired by Hon Agasha Juliet Bashisha was aborted as the district Engineer Mr John Baptist Tumwebaze and his boss Asaph failed to present the report in time yet it needed scrutiny.
Last week, Mitooma district Council sat and resolved to refer the shs 1 Billion road fund matter to the Office of the Inspector General Of Government (IGG) for investigation on allegations of misusing funds.
Things remained the same even when the district roads Committee sat in presence of RDC Mr Kibuuka, CAO Mr Kizito Fred Mukasa and other stakeholders but most of them also doubted the expenditure shit as presented to them by the district engineer and his team thus asking for a quick external audit from the auditor general.
Speaking shortly after the meeting, the Roads Committee chairman Hon Captain Mugabe Dononzio Kahonda admitted that there is no “smoke without fire” but asked the public to stay calm as they wait for the external audit report to be done and they get the exact truth of the matter and allegations.
Mitooma District Woman MP Hon Agasha Juliet Bashisha told press that they are not satisfied with the expenditure paper since the district used to get only shs 250M and do good work on roads but now the works done are little, some shoddy and cannot reflect the shs 1 Billion road fund provided to the district by the Ugandan government.
Some of stakeholders including District Chairman Benon Karyeija blamed the district roads unit for working alone without consulting all the responsible authorities which he thinks is the root cause of the problem.
Other dignitaries who attended the meeting were Mr Ainomugisha Alex (PA Rt Hon Thomas Tayeebwa), PA for Major General Kahinda Otafiire, Town Clerks among others.
